After just about a month of use, a Galaxy Watch Ultra owner experienced the action button falling off, and Samsung appears reluctant to assist despite the watch being under warranty.
Samsung introduced the rugged Galaxy Watch Ultra on June 10, with a design that closely resembles the Apple Watch Ultra, including similar orange accents and bands. However, Samsung has used the “ultra” branding for some time.
According to a Reddit post, the user received their Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 20, but the action button detached in mid-August. The user requested a replacement rather than a repair, but Samsung declined. When the user sent the watch in for repair under warranty, Samsung issued a bill for $107, suggesting the user might have damaged the device in a way that voided the warranty.
It’s unclear if the watch’s issue was due to user damage or a defect. In similar situations, Apple typically offers a replacement to investigate the cause of the defect. Samsung might benefit from focusing on understanding why the rugged watch failed so quickly rather than charging $107. Publicising the issue, as seen on Brandon Butch’s X account, could encourage Samsung to reconsider its approach and better serve its customers.
