While the iPhone Fold is generating significant buzz as Apple’s anticipated foldable smartphone, rumors suggest that Apple is also developing a second foldable option, potentially known as the iPhone Flip.
The market currently features several foldable devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, but Apple has yet to release a foldable phone. Speculation about the iPhone Fold suggests it will be a large-screen device that opens like a book to reveal a spacious display. However, there are also hints of a smaller, more compact foldable model.
The iPhone Flip is rumored to be this smaller variant. It would function like a standard iPhone when open but can fold in half to save space when closed. This device is believed to be a secondary project alongside the iPhone Fold.
Recent reports indicate that Apple might be working on multiple foldable iPhone prototypes. In February, it was reported that Apple had approached at least one manufacturer about components for two different-sized foldable iPhones. If the iPhone Fold represents the larger model, the smaller one could indeed be the iPhone Flip.
The iPhone Flip is said to be codenamed “v68” and features a vertical fold similar to the Samsung Galaxy Flip, with the top half folding down over the bottom half. This design would allow the Flip to be partially opened in an L shape, enabling a portion of the display to be visible without needing a kickstand. It is expected to have specifications comparable to current iPhone models, but details about an external display remain unclear. The iPhone Flip may also be thinner to offset the increased thickness when folded, with Apple potentially leveraging their expertise in slim device design to achieve this goal.
